Lost on Mars
Tom woke up. He was alone. The red sand was everywhere. His spaceship was broken. He tried to call for help. No one answered. Tom felt scared. He looked around. There was no water. There was no food. He had to find a way. He started to walk. The sun was hot. His suit was heavy. He saw a cave. He went inside. It was dark. He heard a noise. Tom stopped. He listened. The noise came closer. Tom's heart beat fast. What was it? He could not see. He held his breath. The noise was very close now. Tom reached for his flashlight. He turned it on. The light showed a small creature. It had big eyes. It looked scared too. Tom took a step back. The creature did not move. Tom spoke softly.
'Hello,' he said.
The creature made a sound. It was not loud. Tom felt less scared. He put out his hand. The creature came closer. It touched Tom's hand. Tom smiled. He was not alone anymore. He had a friend. Tom and the creature left the cave. They walked together. Tom felt hope. Maybe they could find water. Maybe they could find food. Tom was not scared now. He had a friend. They would find a way. They walked for hours. The sun was setting. Tom's legs were tired. The creature seemed fine. It moved quickly. Tom wished he had its energy. They saw a hill. Tom decided to climb it. Maybe he could see something from the top. The climb was hard. Tom slipped a few times. The creature waited for him. At the top, Tom looked around. He saw something shiny. It was far away. Tom pointed.
'Let's go there,' he said.
The creature nodded. They started to walk again. The night was cold. Tom shivered. The creature stayed close. It was warm. Tom was grateful. They reached the shiny object. It was a piece of metal. Tom picked it up. It was part of his spaceship. He felt a bit of hope. Maybe he could fix the ship. He looked around. There were more pieces. Tom and the creature gathered them. They worked together. Tom felt tired but happy. They had a goal. They could do this. Suddenly, Tom heard a noise. It was different from before. It was a hum. Tom looked up. He saw lights in the sky. A ship was landing. Tom's heart raced. Was it help? The ship landed. The door opened. Tom held his breath. A figure stepped out. It was another human. Tom ran to him.
'Help!' he shouted.
The man looked at Tom. He smiled.
'I see you met my pet,' he said.
Tom was confused. The creature ran to the man. It was happy. Tom realized the man was not here to help. He was here for his pet. The man looked at Tom's broken ship.
'Good luck with that,' he said.
He turned and walked away. The creature followed him. Tom stood there. He was alone again. The ship took off. Tom watched it disappear. He sighed. He had to find another way.
Perdido en Marte
Tom se despertó. Estaba solo. La arena roja estaba por todas partes. Su nave espacial estaba rota. Intentó pedir ayuda. Nadie respondió. Tom se sintió asustado. Miró a su alrededor. No había agua. No había comida. Tenía que encontrar una manera. Empezó a caminar. El sol estaba caliente. Su traje era pesado. Vio una cueva. Entró. Estaba oscuro. Escuchó un ruido. Tom se detuvo. Escuchó. El ruido se acercaba. El corazón de Tom latía rápido. ¿Qué era? No podía ver. Contuvo la respiración. El ruido estaba muy cerca ahora. Tom buscó su linterna. La encendió. La luz mostró una pequeña criatura. Tenía ojos grandes. También parecía asustada. Tom dio un paso atrás. La criatura no se movió. Tom habló suavemente.
'Hola,' dijo.
